We Are Paying It Forward
The initial offering of the Scholarship was made for the 2023/24 academic year. Multiple financial aid awards will be made each year to select deserving Maloney seniors who will be continuing their education in a two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
The Scholarship is administered under an agreement with Dollars for Scholars®, and as a chapter of Dollars for Scholars is a charitable 501(c)(3) organization.
The first award cycle in 2024 provided two scholarships and the next year there were three. The Board of Directors targets expansion of the impact and scope of the fund by inclusion of more MHS alumni classes of the 1970s. Renewable scholarships (for the duration of the 2-year or 4-year award recipients' college tenure) and larger award amounts in line with top local scholarships are among the Board's intermediate-term goals.
The Board's long-term vision is an "All-Alumni" Scholarship, leveraging the potential of all MHS graduates who wish to share our mission and goals. Further, we would like to "challenge" our Platt and Wilcox alumni friends to start similar scholarships, with the goal of providing substantial educational assistance opportunities for all three Meriden High Schools.
